• Projects submitted with exclusively male writers or directors will be disqualified without refund.

• 4-Day Event

• Screenwriting Finalists who are in attendance, are treated to a stage reading by professional stage and film actors. Excerpts of their script are read before a live and typically SOLD OUT audience.

• The subject matter of any films programmed in BHFF and screenplays featured should be COMEDIES or must at least embrace a healthy dose of humor.

• We are interested in showcasing all types of funny female voices. 

 

Judging:

• We have a 3-Stage evaluation process when reviewing ALL submissions.

• The judging takes into account both the quality of the finished film or script, the strength of the filmmaker's vision, and puts value on taking risks in style and narrative.

• Selected Films and Screenwriting Finalist will be notified via email.

Awards & Prizes

Awards ceremony always takes place immediately following the Staged readings, and before the closing night party. Winners will receive software prizes, Trophies. Cash Prizes TBA.

Rules & Terms

The 16th Annual Broad Humor Film Festival begins accepting submissions on January 16, 2023.

​

This is a festival for women creators. Either the Writer or the Director of the film MUST BE EXCLUSIVELY FEMALE | IDENTIFY AS FEMALE. Films written by women but directed by men (or co-directed with men) are only eligible for writing awards ONLY. Best Film awards will go to films directed exclusively and by women.

​Film Submission:

• FilmFreeway online screeners is the preferred method of film submissions.

• Short films: under 30 minutes TRT 

• Web Series - up to three episodes maximum 20 minutes

• Feature films: up to 113 minutes TRT

Feature & Short Script Submissions: 

• Female Screenwriters ONLY are permitted to submit

• A male writer or co-writer WILL disqualify the submission without a refund

• A pdf | standard industry format uploaded to FilmFreeway or emailed to
  broadhumorfilmfestival@gmail.com

• Short scripts: under 35 pages 

• Pilots & web series scripts: under 45 pages 

• Feature scripts: between 75 and 115 pages

Press Kit

Press kit information will be requested upon acceptance to the festival. Timely receipt within two weeks of notification is required for participation in the festival. Submitted materials will not be returned.

Submission Fees

Payment is due at the time of submission.

PLEASE NOTE: As with all submissions to Broad Humor, a woman must either be the sole writer or director. Submissions are accepted if your project has a male co-writer or co-director. However, if a male is a collaborator in both (writing | directing), the film will either be disqualified, or screened "out of competition.”
